Dechlorinating Backwash Water

Captor NSF is a product that may be used for dechlorination of backwash water. Captor NSF is a clear solution with little odor.  It has a pH between 6.5 and 7.5.  The system injects calcium thiosulfate into the backwash pipe at a backwash flow rate of 350 GPM.  It only takes 0.08 gallons of Captor NSF (injected over 16 minutes) to neutralize 5600 GPM from 3 ppm to 0 ppm.  A small peristaltic pump is recommended.

Captor NSF is $58 for 5 gallons. Once opened is has a shelf life of approximately 1 year.  It is NSF approved and does not grab oxygen to the extent of sodium thiosulfate.  This is advantageous with regards to fish, etc. downstream.
