Six sets of shop drawings are required for each submission.

Electronic submittals are acceptable in lieu of six hard copies provided that they are organized, numbered, and submitted in the same format as the project specifications.

Project submittals are reviewed by the project manager and/or the construction administrator within 10 working days of receipt.  The review is done using a standard submittal review record that is edited for the specific project.

The contractor is allowed a maximum of three submissions.  All submissions thereafter require the contractor to personally submit any outstanding items.

Once the project is awarded to a contractor, the project manager should issue a form letter asking the contractor to submit these major project components as soon as possible so that there is enough time to adequately address any comments or issues with the products submitted.  With fast moving projects that are on a tight construction schedule, submittals for “big ticket items” such as waterslides or participatory play structures often come through in the 2nd or 3rd wave of submittals.  The owner is then faced with the issue of potentially losing an entire season (if it’s a seasonal pool) or being at the mercy of the contractor and what they submitted.
