Arizona State University’s Sun Devil Fitness Complex, reflects the importance of health, wellness and engagement in students’ lives and encourages all members of the campus community to maintain healthy, active lifestyles.
The new $25 million, 64,000 sq. ft. recreation center was designed by Architekton and 360 Architecture along with the aquatics expertise of Counsilman-Hunsaker. The new recreation facility opened in January 2013 complete with an outdoor recreation pool, weight and fitness area, two multi-purpose studios for group fitness, a two-court gymnasium for sports and campus events, two racquetball courts, a wellness space with three alternative medicine studios, and a three-lane indoor running track with exterior exercise terraces.
With a focus on being one of the healthiest universities in the nation, the facility highlights an outdoor pool than can be used for fitness lap swimming as well as recreation and relaxation. Amenities of the pool include:
The goal of this facility is to receive a Silver level accreditation from the U.S. Green Building Council for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for its efforts in sustainable green design.
