Boise State University – Kinesiology Pool (Study)

Boise, ID

The Counsilman-Hunsaker/Sink Combs Dethlefs team completed a Feasibility Study for Boise State University in the fall of 2007. In an effort to understand the scope of the project, the team met with the steering committee to define the process, outline a proposed schedule, and set meeting dates as needed. The team conducted sessions allowing various user groups, including recreation, athletics, kinesiology, special interest groups, students, and staff, to discuss their needs for the project. The team also conducted an open house at the recreation center to obtain general student population input.

The existing Kinesiology Pool was reviewed as well as the current programs offered. The team looked for overlap, shared uses, reallocated programs, and other deficiencies and/or redundancies between current and proposed activities and spaces.

As a group, each proposed activity and spaces were evaluated with the requirements relative to each of the other activities’ requirements. Based on this discussion, the design team and BSU jointly developed several options with a balanced, prioritized program of uses and spaces. It was critical at this juncture to review the magnitude of needs versus the predicted funding capabilities for the proposed project. Based on the steering committee’s direction, a final report was developed that briefly described each of the activities and spaces, required areas or critical dimensions, and any specialized needs for each space. A conceptual opinion of probable cost was produced, which included construction and non-construction costs.
