Cheyenne Mountain High School is known for a strong arts program and outstanding swim and diving teams. The original school, built in the 1960s, had long outgrown the facilities for these programs and needed to update to keep up with the school's growing needs.
As a result of a 1999 bond election, the School District of Colorado Springs was able to acquire funding for a new natatorium facility and a new Academic Arts building. The aquatic center, designed to capture competition programming activities, consists of an 25-yard swimming pool with eight lap lanes, starting blocks, and diving boards.
