Chicago Public Schools (Audits and Renovations)

Chicago, IL

Austin, Hubbard, Hyde Park, and Wells High Schools

Audits: August 2012

The purpose of the Chicago Public School pool audits were to address specific concerns at each facility. Three of the pools were suspected of having significant leaks either through the concrete pool shell or through the vinyl pool liners. The remaining site was experiencing failures of the pool tile, grout, and setting bed materials.

All audits included a visual examination of each pool as well as onsite discussions with architects, contractors, and swimming pool maintenance staff members. A report was prepared summarizing the conditions at each pool, observations made during the site visits, and recommendations for further testing to be done at each site.

Audit and Renovation: October 2013

Counsilman-Hunsaker worked with Cordogan, Clark, & Associates to evaluate the existing natatorium for any items that were not in compliance with the current administrative code. After a thorough investigation of the existing facility and review with the school district staff, it was determined that a renovation of the swimming pool and mechanical equipment was necessary.

Counsilman-Hunsaker provided engineering services for the replacement of the mechanical equipment, removal of the pool gutter, installation of a new pool liner, piping, and skimmer system.
