Pirate’s Bay Expansion (Study)

Baytown, TX

VIEW ALL PROJECTS

The Counsilman-Hunsaker and Kimley-Horn team was the original design team retained for the new waterpark at the Wayne Gray Sports Complex. Pirates’ Bay Waterpark, built in 2010, is a 350,000 sq. ft. waterpark showcasing exciting amenities for all ages. In 2012, the city was looking to expand the aquatic center to continue the remarkable success they experienced during the first two years of operations.  Multiple options and associated project costs were developed for consideration including a wave pool to add capacity and thrill rides that would attract the teenage demographic. Each concept emphasized recreational aquatics that could be phased in over time with consideration to admission and membership fees for both residents and non-residents.  The goal of the city was to make improvements that could dramatically improve the market appeal and capacity of Pirates Bay, resulting in improved customer satisfaction, and an increase in repeat visits and ultimately an increase in revenues.
