Although planned for more than a decade, the national training pool lacked a site until the U.S. Swimming Headquarters was relocated to the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. It became the nation's primary research center for swimming science and the home pool for the national swim team.

Project Amenities

Counsilman-Hunsaker was retained to design this world-class swimming pool.

The natatorium has high-tech equipment for filming, testing, and evaluating athletes such as a swimming treadmill equipped with technology for monitoring the physiology of a swimmer at various stages of stress.

Another cutting-edge feature is a pressure plate for measuring the push-off force of swimmers using different kinds of turns.

The findings of the center’s technical staff is summarized and published in a report for access to coaches and athletes throughout the nation
