The City of Doral is set to unveil its new Aquatics Center, a significant addition to the expansive 78-acre Doral Central Park. This state-of-the-art facility, with seating for 540 spectators, is designed to cater to both competitive swimmers and community members seeking recreational aquatic activities. The centerpiece is a stretch 50-meter competition pool, capable of hosting major swimming events and accommodating various course configurations, including 50-meter, 25-yard, and 25-meter courses. Adjacent to the competition pool is a training pool featuring six 25-yard lanes, providing an ideal environment for swim lessons and athlete conditioning.
For families and individuals seeking leisure, the Aquatics Center offers a wading pool with engaging water features and zero-depth entry, ensuring accessibility for young children. Additionally, a larger leisure pool encompasses amenities such as a play structure, vortex, two waterslides, a water walk, and varying depths to accommodate all ages and swimming proficiencies.
The development of this Aquatics Center is a testament to the City of Doral's commitment to enhancing community amenities. In 2015, the city commissioned Counsilman-Hunsaker to conduct a feasibility study assessing the need for an outdoor aquatic facility, which involved a comprehensive market analysis and community input. The findings underscored a strong community desire for such a facility, leading to the project's approval. The initiative gained further momentum with the approval of the Doral Parks Bond in November 2018, reflecting residents' support for improved recreational infrastructure.
The community's active involvement has been pivotal throughout the project's development. Residents participated in workshops and provided feedback that shaped the facility's design and amenities, ensuring it meets the diverse needs of Doral's population. This collaborative effort has culminated in an Aquatics Center that not only serves as a hub for competitive swimming but also as a welcoming space for families and individuals to enjoy aquatic recreation.
