East Potomac Pool (Audit)

Washington, DC

The East Potomac Pool is limited in serving the needs of the competitive pool community of Washington D.C. and is not operationally efficient for the operations staff.  Counsilman-Hunsaker, in association with Moody Nolan, was hired to perform an on-site facility assessment, which revealed that the existing dimensions of the pool preclude it from being used as a competition pool for sanctioned 25-yard, 25-meter, or 50-meter events.  Moreover, the maximum depth of the pool at 7’-0” precludes it from serving as a diving facility although the historic diving platform is still located on the pool deck.

The flood of 2003 heaved the pool out of the ground so the pool is out of level and does not comply with ADA accessibility requirements.

Due to the significant challenges of the existing pool, several options were developed which ranged from extensive repairs to the existing pool to the replacement of the pool with a 50-meter competition pool with springboard diving.
