Emory's "athletics for all" philosophy dates back to the 1890s when the school president encouraged athletic activity as good for the mind as well as the body. With lively participation in varsity athletics, intramural teams, sports clubs, and exercise for health and fitness, the Emory University 50-meter pool has promoted this philosophy for many years. The 25-year-old indoor pool in the Madeleine Jude Brown Natatorium supports long and short course training, competition, and 1- and 3-meter springboard diving. A pool audit was provided in April, 2009, by Counsilman-Hunsaker. It identified concerns and deficiencies, and recommended the latest technology for immediate and long-term solutions with an opinion of costs.
Counsilman-Hunsaker also provided an Aquatic Workshop for the pool staff in June 2009. During the workshop current pool operations were reviewed with suggestions provided by Counsilman-Hunsaker to enhance operations. A review of water chemistry was included in the workshop.
