The Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Complex, originally constructed in 1965, is a municipal pool owned and operated by the City of Fort Lauderdale. The complex is considered a leader and pioneer among the world's top aquatic centers, having hosted hundreds of national and international events at which ten world records were set. However, after over 50 years of serving the community, the city made the decision torenovate the facility to ensure Fort Lauderdale remains a destination for world-class aquatic events.
In August 2018, Counsilman-Hunsaker, Hensel Phelps Construction Company, and Cartaya & Associates Architects were chosen as the design-build team to begin preparing construction documents for a redesigned aquatic sports venue. The facility broke ground in April 2019 and is expected to be open sometime in 2022.
