Highland Pool at Lindendale Park (Audit)

Highland, IL

Counsilman-Hunsaker conducted a swimming pool audit at the Highland Pool at Lindendale Park in Highland, IL. The purpose of the swimming pool audit was to identify items that were substandard among the pool and mechanical equipment, items not meeting current health code requirements or industry standards, and equipment that was not operating as designed. The audit assisted in defining a course of action regarding the future of the swimming pool. An opinion of probable construction cost was provided for all recommended repairs.

The facility consists of a main pool, featuring an “L” shaped pool with six 25-meter lap lanes and diving well, and an AquaClimb climbing wall as well as a separate wading pool. Both pools are Chester aluminum pools, constructed in 1964-65 and renovated in 1980.

One major item noted was that the wading pool and main pool were combined on a single recirculation, filtration, and chemical treatment system. Current industry standards state that separate bodies of water must operate on separate mechanical and chemical treatment systems.

While this facility had been well maintained over the years, it was apparent that it was becoming functionally obsolete. During the audit it was reported that attendance at this facility has been decreasing over the past several years. It was believed that swimmers were traveling to the surrounding communities with a preference for swimming facilities featuring multiple bodies of water and additional features and attractions. Repairs were recommended in this report to both increase the life of the existing pool and to bring it up to meet current industry standards and the administrative code.  However, these repairs will have minimal to zero impact on attendance or revenue generated at this facility.
