Houston-Harris County Aquatic Center

Harris County, TX

In 1999 and 2001, Harris County, Texas, retained Counsilman-Hunsaker to conduct a feasibility study to develop aquatic options for current and future aquatic programming at the former Houston Oiler’s training complex.

Four concepts were developed to emphasize a facility capable of hosting competition meets. Each concept was analyzed and estimates were made for project costs, attendance, operating revenue, and operating expenses.

Based on the analysis from these studies, the City of Houston and Harris County partnered to build the city’s first aquatic center to offer free competitive swim lessons and training to children from low-to-moderate-income families between the ages of 7 and 18, who lives in Harris County.

The $7.1 million aquatic center hosts:

  • 7,500 sq. ft. stretch 25-yard competition pool
  • Eight lap lanes
  • Bulkhead
  • Spectator seating for 300
