Lombard Park District – Facility Audit

Lombard, IL

In August 2007, the team of FGM Architects in conjunction with Counsilman-Hunsaker conducted an assessment of the Moran Water Park. The audit included 64 code deficiencies that required major repairs or outright replacement. Many deficiencies, primarily the excessive loss of water, delaminating of the lap pool liner, crumbling concrete pool shells, inefficient filter systems, safety concerns, and environmental hazards needed to be immediately addressed. Repairing or renovating the main pool and dive pool, associated piping, mechanical system, and bathhouse at the Moran Water Park was not cost effective to the residents of Lombard.

In September 2007, the Lombard Board of Park Commissioners unanimously decided to demolish the Moran Park Pool and replace it with a new outdoor aquatic center. Completed in 2009, the $5.9 million state-of-the-art aquatic center named Paradise Bay Waterpark has an array of amenities for all to enjoy. The aquatic complex features a leisure pool, wading pool, lap/fitness pool and a dive pool.
