Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton

San Diego, CA

Marine Corps Base (MCB) at Camp Pendleton has the only Reconnaissance Marine Military Occupational Specialties Program in the United States. The Reconnaissance Training Company (RTC) was transferred in 2007 to MCB Camp Pendleton, while the Amphibious Reconnaissance Course was transferred to MCB Camp Pendleton in 2008. The RTC provides mandated training for recruits, including water survival training for the Marines Awaiting Reconnaissance Training Program. The RTC trains up to 300 students at a time with a very rigorous curriculum and schedule.

The new combat training tank designed by Counsilman-Hunsaker was added in 2016 along with a two-story instruction building, housing classrooms, administrative spaces and instructor work areas. The facility accommodates mandatory swim qualifications, water survival training programs, individual fitness training for students and instructors, and is dedicated for use by the RTC of the School of Infantry-West.

The outdoor training tank includes:

16,200 sq. ft. Lap Pool

  • 50-meter x 30-meter
  • Eight 12 ft. wide 50-meter lap lanes
  • Steel dive structure with 5, 7.5, and 10-meter platforms
