In 2014, FGM Architects commissioned Counsilman-Hunsaker to provide a swimming pool audit at the C located in Mt. Prospect, IL. This zero-depth entry wave pool was constructed in 1984 and had been well maintained over the past 30 years. The pool also featured six 25-yard lap lanes with three diving boards.
In 2016, Counsilman-Hunsaker conducted a site visit at the Big Surf Wave Pool in August 2014. During the audit, it was reported that attendance had been decreasing over the past several years. Swimmers were believed to be traveling to surrounding communities with a preference for swimming facilities featuring multiple bodies of water with additional attractions. The report identified recommended repairs to both increase the life of the existing pool and to bring it up to meet current industry standards and the administrative code.
The Mt. Prospect Park District wanted to expand their Big Surf Wave Pool into a premiere aquatic facility in the Chicago suburbs. The district commissioned FGM Architects and Counsilman-Hunsaker to develop several different options to enhance guest experience with the addition of new water amenities, as well as provide a revenue and expense analysis for each of the studied options.
