In 2010, St. Louis Country Club commissioned Counsilman-Hunsaker to provide a facility audit for two swimming pools. The lap pool has served the club well for the last 83 years while the wading pool was constructed in 2007. The audit identified items that were substandard, obsolete, or not operating as designed. An opinion of probable construction cost was provided to repair the lap pool.
Aquatic Design and Engineering
Due to the condition of the lap pool and the cost of repairs, St. Louis Country Club decided to replace the existing main swimming pool and tot pool. An official 25-yard course was added to the main competition pool, changing the overall shape to an “L”. In preserving the history of “club competition” the pool endures the tradition of the 33 1/3-yard race course. The tot pool includes appealing splash elements for children’s daytime play that doubles as a fountain for colorful evening events. The fountain boasts programmable spray features such as laminar jets, sheer fountains, water columns, and LED lighting.
Sensitive to the classic style and significance of its surroundings, the project reflects that image in the selection of simple, classic, and elegant materials and finishes. The pools feature perimeter granite grating, pebble interior finish, brick retaining walls, and a tinted, textured deck for a smooth blend.
