Natural steam rising from the hot mineral pools at Old Town Hot Springs has been providing the public with a year-round bathing experience since the early part of the 20th Century. Centered on natural hot springs that flow into the pools, the water originates from the Heart Spring, which pumps approximately 150 gallons per minute and comes out of the ground like an artesian well (naturally without the use of pumps). The water then runs into an overflow system filling each of the pools.

The renovation led by Counsilman-Hunsaker, included the restoration of the existing 250 sq. ft. “heart shaped” pool and included the addition of:

  • 25-yard lap pool with six lap lanes (maintained at 80 degrees)
  • Two 250 ft. waterslides with a 650 sq. ft. splash pool
  • Two hydrotherapy spas (100 sq. ft. and 200 sq. ft.)

To help define the space, materials were sensitively selected in the design process. Naturalistic consistency of rockscaping used in steps, fountains, and climbing wall (complete with trickling waterfalls) complement the stunning natural terrain of adjacent hillsides, creeks, and streams.
