The City of Sugar Land, located 20 miles southwest of Houston, is one of Texas' premier cities with a plethora of new businesses, communities and master-planned neighborhoods.
A strong commitment to a family-oriented atmosphere, Sugar Land Parks and Recreation encompasses a wide range of recreational features: 20 city parks, an amphitheater, a skate park, BMX track, trails, a community center, and a municipal outdoor pool.
The 2005 Parks, Recreation & Open Space Master Plan (PROSMP) identified the need for 50,000 sq. ft. of recreation center facilities located on multiple sites throughout the city. The City of Sugar Land retained Brinkley Sargent Architects and PIVOT Recreation Resources (a division of Counsilman-Hunsaker) for the preliminary programming and design of the proposed recreation facility.
The report was written to provide decision makers with the economic influences of the facility when created. However, sensitive to the issue of taxes paid by citizens for the use of public facilities, membership fees for citizens of Sugar Land were not included as per the city's request.
