In 2001, Counsilman-Hunsaker was hired to audit 11 outdoor aquatic facilities located in Kansas City, Missouri. The existing pools were in need of major renovation or replacement for several reasons: the functional conditions were obsolete, appealing amenities were not in place, the designs limited program opportunities and the annual attendance was steadily declining. Based on the information from the report, the City chose to renovate Swope Park and build a new aquatic center in Tiffany Springs.
In 2004, Counsilman-Hunsaker was retained to assist in the renovation of Swope Park.
Counsilman-Hunsaker was responsible for the upgrading of the gutter system, the filter system and the chemical systems, replacing the below-grade piping and adding a new sprayground.
