The University of Kansas retained Counsilman-Hunsaker to develop a program to include concepts and the additional costs if a natatorium were to be built adjacent to the existing Student Recreation Fitness Center. The purpose of the study was to assist student leaders and university staff in developing a series of “good, better, and best” options to be shared with student groups, university leadership, and other stakeholders. To determine the ultimate project scope and financial commitments supported by all parties, the options included aquatic amenities that would meet the needs of student recreation and sports, as well as competitive swimming.
The report provided space program analysis and project costs for three conceptual options. Additionally, operation expenses were provided, including costs for labor, chemicals, supplies, and utilities.
