The largest project ever undertaken by the University of Maine, the new 88,000 sq. ft. Student Recreation and Fitness Center, designed by Cannon Design, is centrally located on the University of Maine's campus. While the center strikes a harmonious balance with its natural outdoor surroundings, Counsilman-Hunsaker, the lead aquatic designer, designed an indoor leisure pool to complement the lodge-type natatorium, overlooking the rustic beauty of New England.
Features of the 3,760 sq. ft. state-of-the-art recreation pool include:
- 3,531 sq. ft. leisure pool with ADA-accessible zero-depth entry
- Fitness lap lanes
- 220 sq. ft. whirlpool spa and sauna
- Vortex
- Water spray features
- Other fitness spaces of the two-level facility include:
- Three basketball courts
- Multi-purpose court with rounded corners
- Elevated jogging track
- Two racquetball courts, one can be converted to a squash court
- Three fitness studios
