Amrian Johnson

Production Manager

Amrian is a graduate of the Ohio State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.  Amrian’s aquatic background includes training in both speed swimming and synchronized swimming.  Amrian’s swimming career culminated in competing as a varsity synchronized swimmer at OSU where she earned two National Championship titles.  In addition to swimming competitively, Amrian has served as a lifeguard, guard start instructor, swim instructor, and as a synchronized swim coach at OSU and Ohio Synchro.  Amrian is working to attain her Professional Engineering license and become a leader in the aquatic design industry.

Carl Nylander, P.E.

Principal and Studio Director

As Principal and Studio Director, Carl’s efforts focus on aquatic facilities in the Northeast. Additionally, Carl represents Counsilman-Hunsaker as Chairman of the Technical Committee for the Model Aquatic Health Code, an organization aimed at developing a more global approach to the rules and regulations of the aquatic design industry.

His passion for aquatics began at the Georgia Institute of Technology where he was a competitive swimmer and served as Team Captain. He later worked as the Assistant Coach for the Women’s and Men’s swim teams at Georgia Tech.

Carl graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology and currently holds a professional license in mechanical engineering.  He has also joined ranks of the elite in the aquatics industry with the Power 25 Award from Aquatics International.

 

Cary Dennis, M.E.

Project Manager

While working within the aquatic industry for more than 20 years, Cary has acquired a broad range of unique experience that ranges from initial concept design through every facet of construction. He has acquired extensive knowledge while in the construction industry building aquatic facilities which gives him a special insight that he uses when designing new projects.

Cary earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Missouri Southern State University and from there went on to earn his Master of Science degree from Washington University.

Chris Boker

Production Manager

As a Production Team member, Chris specializes in producing construction documents and detailed quality control reviews. He is an expert in understanding the requirements for competitive and diving facilities.

Chris holds an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Drafting/CAD Technology from Lewis and Clark Community College.

Chris Moran

Business Studio Director

With more than a decade’s worth of experience, Chris leads the Business Studio supporting all corporate operations of Counsilman-Hunsaker.  Her role as Studio Director incorporates various aspects of the business including financial performance reporting, human resources, corporate structure and registration, information technology as well as other general business administration.  In addition, Chris oversees the functions of the administrative team.

Chris Seris

Project Manager

Chris Seris brings almost 20 years of professional aquatics experience, specifically in aquatic operations, staffing management, and competitive events to the Counsilman-Hunsaker team. Chris has a degree from the University of Missouri and his master’s from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Chris comes to Counsilman-Hunsaker from the University of Missouri, where he served as the Director of Aquatics for twelve years, leading his team in facility management, aquatic programming, competition operation, special events, and risk management, and was part of the MizzouRec leadership team. With his experience directing high level NCAA, USA Swimming, and USA Diving competitions combined with facility operations, programming, and risk management Chris brings a unique perspective to project management. Chris also has experience in municipal aquatics, and recreation in various roles, and is a Certified Pool Operator and ARC Lifeguard Instructor.

Connor Riley

Project Engineer

Connor earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. He is on his way to becoming a licensed Professional Engineer as he recently passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam. With his newly acquired Certified Pool Operator certificate, Connor will be building his aquatic design portfolio in his role as Project Engineer alongside of our talented staff of design professionals.

Daniel Ostrenga

Production Manager

As a member of the Production Team, Daniel is responsible for the production of Construction Documents on various types projects. With his background in Architecture, he is a subject matter expert in the coordination of our BIM projects.

Daniel is a graduate of Ranken Technical College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Architectural Technology.

Darren Bevard, P.E.

Principal and Studio Director

In Darren’s role as Principal and Studio Director, he leads projects in the southern region of the United States.  He possesses a wealth of experience in designing aquatic facilities to serve a variety of user groups providing practical, cost effective and efficient designs. Darren holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Memphis where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with university honors and honors in mechanical engineering. He is currently registered as a professional engineer in seven states.

Darren can frequently be found speaking at various industry symposiums often highlighting efficiencies in aquatic facility operations and the latest advancements in technology being utilized in commercial aquatic design.

Doug Cook, P.E.

Chairman of the Board

As Chairman of the Board, Doug is responsible for managing and monitoring the performance of the firm. He also leads multiple studios within Counsilman-Hunsaker that design and engineer aquatic facilities across the country and abroad.

Doug’s most prominent portfolio projects include collegiate-level facilities. His work is seen at Stanford University, Ohio State University and The Georgia Institute of Technology. In addition to collegiate-level facility design, he has extensive experience in both K-12 and municipal recreation facilities.

A graduate of the University of Iowa, he is a licensed civil engineer with professional registrations in 34 states. In addition, Doug holds an MBA from Saint Louis University and has earned accreditation as a LEED Professional.

He is a notable speaker and published author of numerous articles in aquatic industry publications.  Being a trusted source of aquatic facility knowledge has earned him a designation in the Aquatics International Power 25 group.

Erich Froeschner

Quality Control Director

Erich holds a degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri – St. Louis. As a swimmer and coach of a private swim team, Erich is very familiar with swimming pools and brings real world experiences into the design world. With his engineering knowledge and excellent attention to detail, he develops and manages quality control workflow processes to ensure the accuracy of our deliverable products. He also oversees the Production Team to assist with daily operations in implementation of workflow processes.

George Deines

Studio Director

With 15 years of operations experience in the aquatic industry, George is a valuable source when it comes to aquatic operations. George earned a degree from the University of North Texas and holds certifications as an Aquatic Facility Operator, Certified Pool Operator, Lifeguard Training Instructor-Trainer, and Certified Professional Food Manager. His vast knowledge of operating aquatic facilities has earned him a reputation as an industry leader, author and speaker. In the role of Project Manager, his primary responsibilities focus on feasibility study analysis in addition to aquatic operations services.

Jeff Nodorft, P.E.

Principal and Studio Director

As Principal and Studio Director, Jeff leads a team focusing on projects in the southeast region of the United States. He is an aquatics specialist in hospitality and destination water park projects. Jeff’s accreditation as a LEED Professional solidifies his expertise of energy-related issues producing effective and efficient designs while maintaining the creative aspects of an aquatic-themed destination.

A graduate of the University of Wisconsin Platteville, he is a licensed mechanical engineer with professional registrations in 14 states. In addition, Jeff has earned an MBA from University of Dubuque.

Being an Aquatics International Power 25 Award recipient reflects the breadth of his aquatic experience giving him recognition as a leader in the industry.

Johnathan Nies

HydroApps Product Manager

Johnathan Nies has a diverse aquatics background including indoor and outdoor operations, training and management as well as working for the National Swimming Pool Foundation. Working with the City of Colorado Springs, US Air Force Academy, and private clubs, Johnathan learned pool operation and management. After his time in aquatic operations, he helped launch the Advanced Service Technician course at the National Swimming Pool Foundation, which trains residential service professionals how to better manage their business and give the best service to their customers.

Johnathan maintains certifications as a Certified Park and Recreation Professional, Emergency Medical Technician, American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer, Water Safety Instructor, and NSPF Certified Pool Operator.

Kent Nelson, MCITP

Digital Marketing Specialist

Kent Nelson has a diverse background in aquatics. Growing up in a family owned and operated aquatic facility, Kent learned from a young age the ins and outs of daily operations, programming, and the business of aquatics. A USA Swimming head coach for 20 years, Kent was an NCAA Division III swimmer and diver. After college Kent returned to the family business to help grow, the first privately owned, Aquatic Therapy group in the country. Kent also serves on many national organization boards, including the National Drowning Prevention Alliance (NDPA), as a member of the advisory council.

Kevin Post, MBA

Principal and Studio Director

In the role of Principal and Studio Director, Kevin specializes in providing facility evaluations, aquatic facility business plans, city-wide aquatic master plans, and Certified Pool Operator instruction and certification.  As a past competitive swimmer and Aquatics Director, Kevin draws on this aquatic experience allowing him to address the needs of various client types.

Kevin has written numerous articles and hosted various presentations across the country on topics ranging from creating partnerships for a successful aquatic facility to sustainable aquatic business practices.

Linda Duerst

Business Development Specialist

With the firm for more than 16 years, Linda is an experienced marketing facilitator.  She coordinates with multiple parties to deliver client-specific proposals and is known for her response time in providing timely information.   Linda also plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of the Business Studio.

Maddie Monroe

Production Manager

Maddie is a graduate of the University of Arkansas where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering as well as minors in physics and mathematics. Maddie has a strong aquatic sport background, spending many years as an age-group athlete in the St. Louis area which eventually culminated in a collegiate swimming career on the Razorback varsity team. At Arkansas, Maddie was a 3-time NCAA Championship Qualifier and upon graduation held six school records while also being named to the CSCAA Academic All-American team three times. After passing the Fundamentals Exam, she plans to work towards earning her professional engineering license and one day hopes to obtain a Master’s degree in Business Administration.

Matt Ball

Marketing Director

Matt Ball has a strong background in education and training and 14 years’ experience in the aquatics industry. As both an aquatic operations and training subject matter expert, he has consulted and mentored Instructors, Instructor Trainers, and training organizations across multiple industries over seven states, as well as delivering university- accredited presentations at professional conferences. In addition to his experience consulting and growing American Red Cross Licensed Training Providers’ programs and serving as senior project manager for multiple donor-funded aquatics programs, he was an operations development team member for lifeguard operations with the City of Plano, as well as training and managing up to 165 lifeguards during peak seasons. Matt is also an International Society of the Red Cross volunteer, serving as an Instructor Trainer Educator in Central America. As an educator and Instructor Trainer, he is dedicated to the training and continuing education of people of all ages.
Matt graduated from Northwestern State University of Louisiana and holds certifications as an American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor Trainer, Water Safety Instructor Trainer, First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Trainer Educator, and Aquatics Examiner Administrator, and in OSHA-10 Construction Safety and Health.

Michael Morehart

Project Engineer

Michael is a graduate of Loyola Marymount University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Michael’s aquatic background includes three years on the Men’s Varsity Rowing Team at Loyola Marymount University. He recently earned his Pool Operator Certification and will be working toward earning his professional engineering license. As a Project Engineer, he will work closely with the design team to create remarkable aquatic facilities in the west coast market.
