VIEW ALL PROJECTS

In 2018, Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation, and Open Spaces celebrated the long-awaited grand opening of their new $5.4 million aquatic complex at Homestead’s South Dade Park.  The resilient project was more than 10 years in the making, surviving a long hiatus due to the financial recession and Hurricane Irma in 2017.

Project Amenities

The new 5,900 sq. ft. swimming pool transforms the 52-year-old Helen Sands Pool into a modern, multi-purpose competitive and recreational swimming pool featuring a zero-depth entry, eight 25-yard lap lanes, misting spray features, and an open-flume water slide. New mechanical systems were provided, including a new filtration system and geothermal heating. The existing 1,425 sq. ft. splash pad remains at the facility.

The facility takes advantage of the geothermal heating, allowing it to remain open year-round so families may experience all the great benefits of swimming in a safe and enjoyable environment which offers improved functionality for learn-to-swim lessons, water exercise classes, splash and play fun, and will also allow high school swim and parks teams to practice for competitions.
