Design Services

Transformation by Design

From the brainstorms and napkin sketches of a pool owner to the exacting specs of an architect’s blueprint, we have the expertise to turn dreams into inspiring life experiences.

Regarding our Design services during COVID-19: The COVID-19 crisis thankfully won't last forever. People will continue to enjoy swimming in the future, so now may be the perfect time to consider putting plans for a new aquatic center into place. Aquatic design is where James "Doc" Counsilman and Joe Hunsaker got their start fifty years ago, and it's where we continue to be the premier provider for award-winning aquatic design services. We would love to be part of your architect team – together, we'll make your next aquatic project a success.  Learn more about our COVID-19 response

Where should you begin? Our team of designers and engineers will analyze the condition of your site, develop schematic designs, and work with you to achieve desired outcomes for your state-of-the-art aquatic facility. From identifying your competitors to continually reassessing your budget and ensuring that your aquatic center features all of the amenities you desire, our team will develop a comprehensive design for your aquatic facility that exceeds all expectations.

We serve excellence. From vision to reality, it's important for Counsilman-Hunsaker to bring our clients complete satisfaction. Our diverse and experienced team provide innovative solutions so that your project can be completed on time and in budget. A few of design processes include:

Project Programming and Conceptual Development: Kicking off your project with a thorough needs assessment with users, stakeholders, and constituents, we'll identify the defining goals and opportunities set for each project.

Schematic Design: Counsilman-Hunsaker tailor designs that meet the desired outcome. During this phase, we will communicate with the architect to develop probable construction costs and estimate data for the aquatic facility as a whole.

Design Development: After pinpointing any issues the design team may need to resolve, we prepare design drawings for the pool and features. Our LEED accredited professionals will apply sustainable design elements to lower operating costs and improve energy efficiency.

Construction Drawings and Specifications: Final coordination across teams becomes critically important as we present specific details for pool and aquatic facility construction. Our internal quality control process ensures that plans comply with applicable codes and standards.

Pool Contractor Procurement: With construction documents complete, pool contractors bid on the project based on experience, workmanship, aquatic equipment and systems knowledge, and past performance.

Construction Administration: Maintaining project quality at key milestones throughout construction, our professionals conduct on-site visits to monitor progress and submit formal reports. We review any contractor submittals, shop drawings, project information, and requested substitutions.

Project Commissioning and Operational Support: Once construction is complete, Counsilman-Hunsaker continues to offer many levels of support for ongoing operations. Our Aquatic Management Program and full suite of web-based applications help facilities train and lead staff while maintaining standards of excellence.
