The Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science is an academic and research institution for the study of oceanography and the atmospheric sciences within the University of Miami.
It is located on the school’s waterfront shoreline facing Biscayne Bay. It is the only subtropical applied and basic marine and atmospheric research institute in the continental United States.
In addition to the core classes taught for scientific diving, the Rosenstiel School will be the first university to offer scientific freediving in accordance with the new PADI standards for scientific freediving as a research tool. Freediving has many applications to enhance underwater research activities such as experimental larvae research, coral outplanting, shark research, and marine mammal observations.
