In February 2020, Counsilman-Hunsaker assessed the condition of the existing 40-yard stretch competition pool located on the campus of Hamilton College, as well as its respective mechanical systems. The comprehensive analysis of the pool, mechanical equipment, and natatorium was requested in preparation for either a major or minor renovation of the natatorium, the need for which arose after a failure of a section of ductwork that fell onto the spectator seating area overnight.
In addition, the college was exploring renovations to the building enclosure which was experiencing issues with a compromised vapor barrier that allowed moisture to migrate up to the rafters, causing discoloration in several areas of the original tongue-and-groove ceiling. This prompted the college to undergo a larger study of the entire natatorium and mechanical spaces as the need for a comprehensive renovation and/or replacement of the pool became apparent. In addition to the assessment of the facility, three different scope of work studies were completed: a renovation to the existing facility, an expansion of the existing pool to 50-meters, and a new 50-meter pool at another location on the campus. Opinion of probable costs were provided for each scope of work along with the full assessment.
In December 2020, Counsilman-Hunsaker completed design modifications to the existing pool and its related mechanical systems. The renovation is currently on hold pending a decision to renovate or replace the pool.
