Griffin Structures commissioned Counsilman-Hunsaker to provide a facility audit for the community pool located at J.H. McGaugh Elementary School.
The City of Seal Beach hired Griffin Structures to assess the condition of its assets and plan for the future of city recreation. The purpose of the aquatics audit was to identify items that are substandard in the current pools so that the larger team can make an informed recommendation for the overall facility renovation.
The Seal Beach Community Pool located at J.H. McGaugh Elementary School has one L-shaped 25-yard competition pool and one small wading pool. After visiting the site and reviewing the as-built drawings provided, Counsilman-Hunsaker observed several violations of the California Pool Code and current industry design best practices. The pool is 57 years old and did not age well. The pools and mechanical systems were experiencing major degradation and needed major repair.
Based on the extent of repair required, Counsilman-Hunsaker recommended that the MaGaugh facility should be replaced.
