The City of Miamisburg engaged Counsilman-Hunsaker to conduct a comprehensive Sycamore Trails Aquatic Center (STAC) audit to assess the facility’s current conditions and recommend improvements for continued operation. Initially constructed in 1996, the aquatic center has undergone various renovations, with significant updates in 2021 and 2022, including resurfacing, gutter system improvements, and pool heater and lighting replacements.
Several deficiencies were identified during the audit, including recurring surface repairs despite recent renovations, concerns regarding the shared water system between the spray ground and the main pool, and structural issues with the facility’s original slides. Additional concerns included ADA compliance, as the pool lacks a secondary accessible entry point. The audit also found that shifting PVC grating, sand intrusion from the adjacent volleyball courts, and plumbing inconsistencies require further evaluation.
To guide future renovations, Counsilman-Hunsaker provided a detailed cost estimate with prioritized repair recommendations, including:
- Surface and Structural Improvements: Addressing cracks in pool walls and resurfacing deteriorating plaster.
- Mechanical Upgrades: Separate the spray ground from the main pool’s filtration system and evaluate plumbing blockages.
- ADA Compliance: Installing an additional accessible entry point.
- Equipment and Safety Enhancements: Repairing or replacing aging slides, loose grating, and deteriorating deck elements.
These recommendations will help the City of Miamisburg plan and execute necessary improvements to extend the longevity of the Sycamore Trails Aquatic Center while ensuring safety and compliance.
