Lawrence Hans Swimming Pool Leader Passes Away

Lawrence (Honky) Hans, age 90, of San Antonio, died on Monday, October 15, 2012. He was a 1939 graduate of Central Catholic High School. Lawrence then went on to serve our country in WWII, first as an aviation cadet and then was a Staff Sergeant in the Infantry during the European Theatre. He was a decorated war hero and was awarded a Purple Heart, a WWII Victory Medal and 2 Bronze Stars.
After the war he graduated from the University of Texas with a BS degree in Civil Engineering. He was owner of Lawrence E. Hans & Associates, P.E. and Pool Tech of Texas. Lawrence designed municipal swimming pools all across the state of Texas. Lawrence was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Alamo Heights Rotary Club. He was a founder and past president of the Lamplighters Dance Club.
He especially enjoyed Saturday morning breakfast with the ROMEO’S. Lawrence was also an Eagle Scout and was instrumental in helping his grandson Robert become an Eagle Scout. Honky had a wonderful sense of humor and was a great story teller. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his grandchildren. He will be missed dearly by his family and many friends.
Lawrence is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Hans; daughters, Janet Heydenreich and husband Rick, Ellen Hans Schuler and Sarah Hans; grandchildren, Kate Heydenreich and fiancé, Will Monroe, Lauren Heydenreich, Julia Heydenreich, Chris Schuler, Caroline Schuler and Robert Schuler; nephew, John Edward Hamilton and niece, Debra Hamilton. He was preceded in death by his sister Catherine Hamilton.
