Deerfield Academy, a renowned coeducational, independent boarding school founded in 1797, has earned its reputation for academic rigor and fostering a tight-knit community. Dedicated to the holistic development of its students, the institution emphasizes excellence in academics, athletics, and personal growth.
A hallmark of the Deerfield campus is its state-of-the-art athletic facilities, which play an integral role in supporting its students' physical and mental well-being. Deerfield Academy undertakes continuous upgrades to its infrastructure, demonstrating its commitment to maintaining premier resources.
In 2023, the academy commissioned a comprehensive audit of the Koch Pool, resulting in a detailed report of necessary repairs, renovations, and cost analyses. Following the audit, Koch Pool underwent a transformative renovation that addressed critical structural and safety issues while elevating its functionality and aesthetics. The 25-yard lap pool and the 1,120-square-foot diving pool were upgraded with a durable ceramic tile finish, replacing the failing cementitious surface, which had caused injuries and hindered performance. A waterproofing layer was also applied beneath the tile to ensure long-term durability.
Additional improvements included installing new VGB-compliant main drain covers, updating depth markers and warning signs, adding a new ladder for the diving pool, replacing the surge tank’s access hatch, and ensuring accessibility compliance with a new pool lift. Deck anchors not flush with the surrounding tiles were replaced to enhance safety.
The revitalized Koch Pool is a central hub for athletic training, competitions, recreational activities, and community engagement. By investing in an entire ceramic tile interior and addressing critical safety and operational concerns, Deerfield Academy has reaffirmed its commitment to creating an environment where students can thrive in and out of the water.
