In 2020, the City of Altus commissioned Counsilman-Hunsaker to conduct a swimming pool assessment of the two pools at the Linda Wiginton Aquatic Center. The audit identified substandard items at the pools or not operating as designed. The pools were originally constructed in 1980 and have undergone minor and major renovations. Recommendations were made to correct the substandard items providing for another 10 - 15 years of operation. Additionally, a feasibility study was conducted with Kimley Horn and Associates to develop probable costs for potential repair, renovation, or replacement of the aquatic center.
In 2021, Counsilman-Hunsaker was again retained to provide aquatic engineering services for the recommended renovations to both the indoor and outdoor pools. Renovations to the 3,700 sq. ft. indoor lap pool included fully replacing the mechanical systems, starting blocks, lifeguard chairs, and pool lift. Renovations to the 5,000 sq. ft. outdoor pool included full replacement of the mechanical systems.
