The Inglewood Unified School District engaged Counsilman-Hunsaker to evaluate the indoor pool at Morningside High School. Constructed in the early 1950s, the natatorium and pool had been abandoned and left unused for many years. District staff sought to determine the necessary steps to restore the pool to operational status, as Morningside High School was the only school in the Ocean League Conference without its own functional training and competition facility.
Counsilman-Hunsaker conducted a comprehensive audit of the existing 25-yard indoor competition pool and dive well. The assessment revealed numerous deficiencies, including substandard conditions, non-compliance with current industry design standards and codes, and malfunctioning or non-operational equipment. The audit outlined a course of action for addressing these issues and provided an opinion of probable construction costs for the recommended updates and repairs. These improvements were aimed at enhancing the pool's operation and bringing it up to modern standards.
Following the audit findings, the school district determined that renovating the 70-year-old facility would not be in the best interest of the students, staff, or community. As a result, plans are underway to construct a new indoor or outdoor pool to better serve the needs of Inglewood High School and its community.
