Counsilman-Hunsaker conducted an evaluation of the Crandall Pool located at the United States Military Academy West Point campus. The assessment aimed to identify deficiencies in the existing pool and natatorium that need to be addressed to comply with current health and competitive regulations. The evaluation revealed several shortcomings, including a deteriorating dive tower, inadequate support spaces, substandard depth profile, customized bulkhead, limited number of lanes, low pool capacity, and aging equipment systems. The findings have highlighted the need for a renovation project soon.
To determine the best course of action for the renovation project, multiple workshops were conducted. These workshops included a comprehensive study of peer institutions and a thorough evaluation of the specific needs of the United States Military Academy (USMA).
Based on the findings, several options were presented, and the associated costs were thoroughly assessed. The chosen design will include several significant improvements, such as a new competition gutter trough, which will necessitate the removal of all existing cast iron fittings. Additionally, the depth profile will be modified to meet current regulations, a new dive tower will be installed, and support spaces will be expanded to include a dryland training area. Other enhancements include the removal of the existing bulkhead, the installation of new recirculation equipment, interior ceramic tile, and an updated timing system.
