Designed to enhance classroom and game performance, the new Whitney Athletic Center provides physical training, well-being, and academic support to all University of Delaware student-athletes. By integrating athletic facilities and academic assistance, the Whitney Athletic Center will facilitate easier transitions from school to sports, giving the students more time to focus on both.
The new Center will support athletes in all sports with a 10,000 sq. ft. strength and conditioning area, hydrotherapy tubs, a large training room, sports medicine facilities, a kitchen and nutritional education space, an auditorium, and several multipurpose areas. The Student Success Center within the facility provides much-needed study space for tutoring and other academic support to help athletes maintain a focus on their studies.
The Center was built into the west side of the existing Delaware Stadium, which also was renovated as part of the project. Stadium upgrades include new Stadium Club space, an enhanced press box with coaches’ booths, upgraded concessions and restrooms, and new chair backs.
