The University of Massachusetts Amherst initiated a comprehensive analysis of its indoor and outdoor recreation facilities, aiming to shape a visionary plan for the campus's evolution over the next several decades. As a pivotal component of this broader initiative, Counsilman-Hunsaker evaluated the existing Curry Hicks and Boyden aquatic facilities. In alignment with the university's forward-thinking vision, a benchmarking exercise was incorporated into the master plan, scrutinizing peer institutions' well-being and recreational infrastructure to ensure UMass Amherst remains at the forefront.
Within this strategic framework, three distinct concepts were ingeniously developed for the University of Massachusetts Amherst, one of which presented an alternative option capable of accommodating the varsity swimming and diving teams. The final report encapsulated these visionary concepts and provided invaluable insights into construction costs, furnishing the University with a crucial tool for informed decision-making in future capital planning endeavors. This endeavor represents a forward-looking commitment to enhancing the campus experience and athletic infrastructure for generations.
