Construction completed in August 2020 at the University of Texas of a custom outdoor pool for both short course and long course training which will enhance both the training capabilities and recruitment of world class student-athletes and ensure the long-term success of both the men’s and women’s programs. Texas Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving have set the standard for all to follow, with a combined 23 national championships, numerous Olympic medalists, world and American record holders, and individual NCAA champions.
The Eddie Reese Outdoor Pool, located on west side of the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center, was named in honor of the longtime head coach of the men’s swimming and diving team. He is the only college swimming coach to win NCAA team titles in four separate decades and served as the United States Men’s Olympic Team head coach on three separate occasions. Reese is the winningest coach in the sport’s history with 14 NCAA team titles, a figure that also positions the University of Texas as the winningest NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving program.
The project also included decking, lighting, security walls, gates, landscaping, irrigation, and full recirculation systems in a new support building for the expanded facility.
