In 2015, Counsilman-Hunsaker provided a swimming pool assessment of the pool and mechanical systems for the Melaven Pool located at the Ft. Wainwright Army Base. The purpose of the audit was to identify items that are substandard, items not current with industry swimming pool design standards, equipment not operating as designed, and to assist in defining a course of action regarding the future of the pool.
The pool has seen significant usage in the last few years and needed upgrades and repairs. Due to increased usage, multiple items were noted that needed repair or replacement, updating, or renovation to keep the facilities operating at a sustainable level.
In 2018, Counsilman-Hunsaker performed aquatic design services for the renovation of the eight lane, 25-yard pool which included replacement of the PVC pool liner and all the pool mechanical equipment. The scope also included associated architectural, structural mechanical and electrical upgrades needed for a fully coordinated design for the natatorium. Major mechanical and electrical upgrades were performed to improve operational efficiencies and long-term maintenance goals, and to achieve current energy efficiency standards. Mechanical upgrades included new water service including piping and pumps, new HVAC equipment, and a new 40’x10’x10’ built-in-place OSA hood designed to replace the existing exterior built-in place hood serving the HVAC equipment. Electrical upgrades include new electrical wiring, lighting (LED) and DDC systems and replacement of the existing 600A electrical service with a new 1000A service.
