The YMCA decided it was best for the community to build a new aquatic center which would allow multiple users and programs in the pool at the same time. The design intentionally offers sub-spaces for different programs to take place at the same time.

Along with the 35,000 sq. ft. aquatic center addition to the existing YMCA structure, there is also a 5,600 sq. ft. remodel/renovation portion of the existing building. The new aquatic center addition contains new indoor pools, locker rooms, offices, and support spaces. Aquatic amenities include:

Sustainability was of great importance to the YMCA, due of the amount of energy that can be used in heating, cooling and maintaining an aquatic center.  Natural light with the need for good insulation was designed by placing the addition on the south side of the existing YMCA facility, providing proper shading on the south and west windows and carefully selecting proper glass types on each of these exposures. High-efficiency natural-gas powered heating systems were installed, as well as, long lasting insulation in the roof.
