Counsilman-Hunsaker was commissioned by the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department to conduct a facility audit on the Central Swimming Pool. The facility includes a removable air structure “bubble,” which allows for year-round usage of the 50-meter by 25-yard competition lap pool. The pool is currently being used for high school, USA Swimming and USA Diving training and competition, learn-to-swim, and other programming, as well as recreation.
The facility was evaluated for deficiencies related to current code standards, structural issues, and detailed cost estimates were developed along with recommendations for remediating those deficiencies and defined a course of action regarding the facility's future. The final report identified items for immediate repair, replacement with a Myrtha stainless steel system, removal of the existing 50-meter pool, mechanical systems, and deck, and replacement.
