Nemours Children’s Health Hospital enlisted Counsilman-Hunsaker to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of its indoor therapy pool, with the goal of identifying deficiencies and substandard conditions within the pool and its support spaces. While the pool primarily caters to hospital patients, it previously served wellness classes before the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic. The decline in pool usage, coupled with deteriorating finishes affecting aesthetics, led to the decision to undergo a professional aquatic assessment to determine the facility's future use.
The assessment report detailed several findings and presented recommendations, categorizing actions that require immediate attention, those to be addressed in the next 6-12 months, and those within the next 5-10 years. Priority was given to safety and code-required items, such as the absence of VGBA main drain covers, the need for secondary ADA access, and the imperative for a safety vacuum release system at the pump.
Other notable issues included the need to remove and replace the plaster finish, upgrade the stainless-steel gutter grating, regrout the accent tiling, and implement specific updates in the mechanical room. Opinions on probable costs were provided for all recommended actions.
