The City of Cleburne engaged Counsilman-Hunsaker to conduct an in-depth audit of the Splash Station Aquatic Center, evaluating the facility’s condition and recommending upgrades for long-term sustainability. Initially opened in 2004, the facility has served the community for 20 years and remains a key recreational asset for the city.
The assessment identified several key areas for improvement, including:
- Lower-than-designed flow rates for the competition and leisure pools, potentially affecting turnover rates and water quality.
- Structural deficiencies such as missing and deteriorating tiles in the lazy river and competition pool.
- Chemical storage concerns include excessive chlorine storage and the absence of CO2 monitoring in the acid storage room.
- Safety and equipment issues, including corroded slide tower stairs, leaking behind slide pumps, and missing starting block safety covers.
To assist the city in planning future renovations, Counsilman-Hunsaker provided prioritized recommendations, including:
- Hydraulic and Mechanical Upgrades: Address circulation flow rates and consider transitioning to a manual backwash system.
- Structural and Aesthetic Improvements: Replace missing tiles, enhance the surface of the lazy river, and upgrade elements of the pool deck.
- Chemical and Safety Enhancements: Implement proper protocols for chemical storage and install CO2 monitoring equipment.
- Equipment Repairs and Replacements: Clean or replace corroded slide stairs, verify the accuracy of flow meters, and maintain the grating around the competition pool.
With these improvements, Splash Station can continue serving the community while enhancing operational efficiency and safety.
