The Aquatic Center, located in the John H. Hart Physical Education Building and originally constructed in 1968, was showing signs of age and physical obsolescence. In May 2012, Counsilman-Hunsaker performed an assessment of the existing conditions of the pool related to compliance with current health codes and industry standards. An examination of the overall condition of the pool and supporting systems included recirculation, filtration, and sanitation systems. The final report detailed the existing condition of the pool and its equipment, including life expectancies and recommended short-term and long-term repairs or replacements, including cost estimates. In addition to the audit, Counsilman-Hunsaker provided programming options and concept drawings for renovating the swimming pool.
The six lane, 25-yard pool serves the BYU-Idaho campus with academic classes in swimming and lifeguarding plus several activity programs such as water polo, swimming, ‘Battleship’, water aerobics, kayak rolling, scuba certification, and indoor triathlons.
