In April 2024, Gadsden High School contracted Counsilman-Hunsaker to evaluate its six-lane lap pool, which was drained and non-operational at the time of the inspection. The School District sought to determine whether the existing pool is worth retaining and what repairs should be prioritized to ensure continued safe operation.
The pool, originally constructed in 1960, was found to be in fair condition overall, thanks to ongoing maintenance by the school staff. However, key issues were identified that require immediate attention, including the pool liner, gutter grating, and mechanical systems. Recommendations for repair included replacing the pool liner, addressing pool deck damage, and updating the filtration and chemical systems. Due to the pool’s age and condition, long-term planning for renovation or replacement was advised to meet the district’s goals for safe and sustainable aquatic facilities in the future.
