The Lincoln Public Schools successfully passed a $290 million bond issue in November 2020, with over 62% of voters approving the initiative. This significant investment addressed building needs across the district's vast footprint, encompassing every zip code within Lincoln. The focus was on three primary areas: constructing new schools, renovating and upgrading existing facilities, and investing in early childhood education.
The two schools feature a three-story classroom wing, an innovation hub featuring open-concept learning stairs, and state-of-the-art technology. In addition to general classrooms, administrative offices, gymnasiums, and innovation labs, the schools have separate visitor and student entrances on either end.
To address the athletic department's needs, competition swimming pools were included as part of the scope of the two new high schools - Northwest High School (2022) and Standing Bear High School (2023). The natatoriums serve the school's swimming and diving teams and the wider community.
The pools at Northwest HS and Standing Bear HS are identical. Each pool includes a deck level gutter overflow system and a deep end with 1-M springboards for fast swimming, and high-quality diving, but the pools also each include an ADA access ramp and ADA access stairs to ensure that all students can utilize the amenity.
Spectator seating, a scoreboard, and an in-deck timing system are included to allow for the capability of hosting high school swimming & diving dual meets and tri meets.
