The new recreation center and the 20-acre renovated Linden Park celebrated its grand opening in May 2021. The new 50,000 sq. ft. recreation center doubled the size of the existing one built on the same site in 1951. The new center was built with community ideas. City officials met with older residents, youths, working families, and community leaders to make sure the center reflected the needs and wants of the community. The project was financed through the city’s capital budget.
The Park is anchored by the new community center that includes a basketball court, a fitness room for gymnastics, a 200-meter elevated walking track, and a game room. Other amenities include a teaching kitchen, a performance stage, and will serve as a neighborhood hub for city services including the Smart Columbus mobility program and WIC clinic currently serving 2,500 clients.
