Mustang Pool – Osan Air Base – Songtan Station (Audit)

Trane commissioned Counsilman-Hunsaker to provide a swimming pool assessment of the indoor 25-meter lap pool and a small tot pool at the Mustang Pool at the Osan Air Base. Construction drawings are dated 2004. The pool shells were constructed of reinforced concrete supported by structural fill, lean concrete and a waterproofing membrane. Additional support for the lap pool is provided with concrete slab beams spaced 27 ft. on center with extended depth pool walls. Both pools have an all tile interior finish.  Both pools utilize a continuous perimeter overflow deck level gutter which is designed to be in constant flooded suction.   The depth profile for the lap pool varies from 4’-0” at the shallow end wall to 10’-0” in the deep end and the tot pool is 1’-0” deep. The facility and pools have not been used for several years due to operational issues and water loss in the 25-meter pool.  Counsilman-Hunsaker made a two-day site visit to review the existing conditions of the natatorium, pools, and pool equipment. To assist in defining a course of action regarding the future of the facility, an opinion of probable construction cost was provided for recommended repairs for short-term and long-term use. After review, base staff decided to renovate the facility including new pool piping, new chemical treatment systems, main drain  repairs and pool finish updates.
