Counsilman-Hunsaker was commissioned by the Borough of Waynesboro to provide an assessment of the existing Northside Pool facility which includes a recreation and tot pool. The assessment had specific focus on the pool interior finish, failure of the pool coping, and water loss from the structure and piping.
Issues discovered with the recreation pool included the plaster finish, which was severely chipping and causing safety issues especially in the shallow areas, pool tile that was delaminating from the pool structure, and pool coping which was failing. An opinion of probable cost included budgets for new pool finishes as well as an alternative to abandon the plaster finish and skimmer system and renovate the pool with a gutter system.
The tot pool was also assessed, and similar issues were observed. The pool’s painted finish was rough in texture and the coping was also failing. An opinion of probable cost for the tot pool included budgets for both the renovation and the replacement of the pool with a splashpad.
In addition to the reported issues with pool finishes, other items which could benefit from renovation or replacement were identified. These included the addition of ADA-compliant pool lifts, updates to the pool mechanical and piping systems, as well as the restoration of the existing pool features and waterslides. Recommendations were made for renovation or replacement of pool systems including costs for any modifications, replacements, or additions required.
