In August 2022, Southwest ISD (SWISD) celebrated the grand opening of its new $24 million aquatic center. The two-story 35,000 sq. ft. facility features a natatorium with a 50-meter stretch pool and a separate teaching pool. This new state-of-the-art center will be more than just a point of pride for SWISD as it symbolizes the power of leveraged partnerships between the local school district and the city of San Antonio. The Southwest ISD Aquatics Program looks forward to improving the experiences of its swimming, diving, and water polo teams. Additional program offerings include swim lessons, community swim and athletic competitions.
Though the primary focus of the project was to provide a pool and competition space for SWISD student athletes with seating for 720 spectators, the facility still supplies advantages to others and is accessible by the rest of the student body as well as the southern San Antonio community.
The aquatics center features a world-class 50-meter competition stretch pool which utilizes Myrtha modular stainless steel and PVC construction technology and features dual movable bulkheads. To complement a multitude of programming options for swimming and diving, the pool can also be configured for water polo practices and competitions. In addition to the primary competition venue, a four lane, 25-yard teaching pool with an accessible ramp entry supplements the competitive aquatics programming, allowing dedicated space for learn-to-swim, fitness/wellness activities, and additional warm-up space during meets.
